Memoria Chilena, Portal de la cultura de Chile
Winner in the
Culture category
Memoria Chilena is project which highlights the importance of libraries and ICT to keep culture alive. This project was at the Challenge award, 2004. Since that time, it has continued to evolve. The special sections for children and for sight impaired are worthy special attention. This project is totally government dependent, budgeted within the allocations for the library. This means that issues of democracy and the importance of living culture for the democratic process must also be made alive in the project. We expect that as democracy continues to evolve in Chile, Memoria Chilena and the libraries will continue to contribute vibrantly to this process, as they do now.

800K Minds Project
Hong Kong and China have a tradition of great ICT projects and programs. Now there are efforts, like this one, which aim at keeping the spirit alive as a new generation enter the age of social responsibility. 800K Minds is an empowerment project with full effect. Its structure and very well constructed framework allow for expansion into areas like local development, equal opportunity and entrepreneurship among students. It will be interesting to look at this particular point as the project opens into the amazing possibility of alliances between entrepreneurial and cultural actors in society. Very transferable concept and its staff must be congratulated for 800K Minds great achievement!

Letralia, Tierra de Letras
Letralia is a well know project. It has been with the Challenge before. It has an impressive list of contributors and extensive readership. While innovative (even revolutionary) at its start, today is Letralia a well established and very well done internet publication. Given the cultural context where it operates, Letralia continues to grow. We expect that in the future, Letralia will become a tool for school, students and teachers as it takes on challenging issues like gender equality. A time of Challenge confronts Internet publications as they have to evolve to new media technologies. It will be interesting to follow how Letralia, an Internet publication with its own traditions, will meet these new realities. We are certain that Letralia will do so in the future, with the same energy and creative as it does now

Community Integration Program: "México en Comunidad"
Mexico en Comunidad is an in-government entrepreneurial action with very clear and well defined methodology. Its coordinators have managed the difficult and sensitive the internal negotiations which the dynamic political changes require to keep a well working project alive and going. Now it faces the challenges of fast and mobile connectivity, expansion into rural areas and the direct engagement of a new generation. It will be interesting to see how the project will engage communities, particularly rural communities, into the project. Mexico en Comunidad demonstrates that it is possible for governments to open space and resources for their staff to be creative and entrepreneurial.
