Littlefish Health Project

Country of activity:
Australia
Category:
Health
Vision, objectives and goals:
The Littlefish Health Project software will be built to meet the GEHR (Good Electronic Health Record) protocols. It will be built collectively by users, and will be set up so that users can contribute ideas, information and suggestions, which will then be carefully reviewed and incorporated into the approved body of information. It will be available to any health service provider who wishes to use it without restriction. It is intended to be a freely available computer-based resource for health workers to support them in their decision making. Unlike other Open Source projects Littlefish did NoT commence with a code base. Instead we opted for the route of inviting interested parties to collaborate and define the development of the software from the ground up whilst meeting international industry standards. We believe this is necessary to ensure that it meets the needs & ideas of the users themselves and also protect the interests of the patient.
How ICT contributes to the organisational objectives:
Contributors are based world wide in 19 countries including Mexico, South Africa, Nigeria, Namibia,Egypt,Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, France ,Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, UK USA, Canada,Italy (oh and of course Australia:-)
User needs:

As a Nurse I had always found filing a very boring but necessary task and working on some outreach programmes i.e. driving a medical vehicle to remote communities and carrying boxes of files with me I found incredibly cumbersome.
