Vision, objectives and goals:

Sweden was one of the first countries in the world to ackNowledge the increasing number of environmental problems. Substantial environmental improvements in areas such as air quality, reversing acidification, phasing out of ozone-depleting substances, environmentally renewable energy systems, water and wastewater treatment, industrial pollution control, and waste management have gained international attention and fame. Sweden was also one of the first countries to order a rapid phase out of CFCs which deplete the ozone layer. Since 1995, CFCs have been banned in newly installed cooling, heating and other acclimatisation facilities. Sweden's future environmental goal is to establish an ecologically sustainable society with the purpose to protect human health, preserve biological diversity, manage natural resources, and to protect natural and cultural landscapes. Sweden and International Co-operation Sweden plays an active role in the international work to create a better and sustainable environment, Not only in the Nordic region but also in Europe and globally. In the Nordic region the focus lays on reducing and eliminating environmental threats around the Nordic region including the Baltic Sea area and the Barents Sea area. In Europe the focus lays on Swedish membership of the European Union as well as prioritising measures against acidification and climate change, work for an ecocyclic society and for the conservation of biological diversity. At the global level Sweden is active in the work of the Commission for Sustainable Development (CSD) and contributed to freshwater supplying being the top priority for 1998. Sweden also has a long history of active involvement in rural water supply systems in Africa. Other Swedish international commitments include the EEC Convention on transboundary air pollution and conventions to protect the marine environment of the Baltic and North Seas, and the North East Atlantic.

- The website has made it easy to find practical solutions to environmental problems as well as partners that can help implement new techNologies. - The kNowledge within recycling, water- and air cleaning, is exceptionally high in Sweden since Swedish industries have implemented a great deal of the processes themselves and have redeveloped new products and services within the area. We Now receive an easily comprehensible profile of this area. - The website acts like a meetingplace for participating companies and by working together it has turned into a great success. - Introduced ”the Swedish experience”……. - Increased the global awareness…….

User needs:

The project is a result of a government report on international promotion of Swedish environmental techNology. That led to a request to the Swedish Trade Council to propose a plan for sharing the Swedish experience in the field of environmental techNology
